The Milliken Museum is always seeking volunteers who are passionate about history to help guide tours at the Museum as well as get involved in various projects. Volunteers do not need experience to begin, we just ask that you have a consistent presence and a willingness to learn. Those that are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Museum are encouraged to reach out to us via our email and include "VOLUNTEER" in the subject line so we can better sort your email out from general inquiries. When sending us your email, please let us know what days work best for you. We have a particular need for volunteers during the week, Tuesday to Friday, but we will accept volunteers on weekends.
Prospective volunteers should be comfortable speaking in front of guests as we will need docents for giving tours, which can take over an hour. Docents will be taught the main subjects to discuss on tours but are encouraged to come in and learn about what is at the Museum to add the spice of life to a tour that many guests enjoy. Docents will also be taught how to use our Square terminal for processing gift shop purchases.
Alongside acting as a docent, we may need volunteers to work a variety of events or projects. Annual events that the Milliken Museum requires help on are the Membership Drive, the Arbor Day Breakfast, the Charles Sawyer Lecture Series, and the Los Banos Chamber of Commerce Street Fairs. Projects are less frequent but can be a major opportunity for volunteers to learn a new skill, such as document digitization and newsletter production.
